Ian Field

Ian Field brings a wealth of legal experience to Family Lawyers Mackay, with a career spanning the UK and Australia. Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2000, Ian began his legal journey working in Family Law within one of Surrey’s largest firms. After relocating to Australia in 2006, he gained admission to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2007, subsequently joining Family Lawyers Mackay. Ian’s approach to Family Law is both sympathetic and practical. He provides clear guidance to clients, helping them understand their options and the potential benefits and challenges of each to achieve the most favourable results. His legal expertise extends to negotiation, mediation, drafting agreements, and court proceedings. Ian is recognised for his collaborative practice training and is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland. He has experience supporting children’s interests, having recently completed the Independent Children’s Lawyers training program, and has been involved in pioneering altruistic surrogacy applications in Queensland. Beyond Family Law, Ian is skilled in preparing Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and administering deceased estates, bringing a sensitive and practical perspective to these matters. He also advises on Employment Law, helping clients navigate contractual agreements and employment terminations within an evolving legislative framework. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Ian spent ten years managing charities focused on supporting older people in the UK. His background in sociology from the University of Warwick informs his client-centred work today. Outside the office, Ian is passionate about football, following English Premier League matches and supporting the Brisbane Roar. He also enjoys running, cycling, and has recently taken up golf.
